I think it doesn't matter how old you are - September will always be back to school time! There's just something in the air every autumn that makes you want to sharpen your pencils and hit the books. But for the kids, that feeling isn't optional. They're plunging back into their education whether they want to or not! Happily there are some awesome apps out there than can help them get back in the grove - and will satisfy their parents' need to feel scholarly again.
For all ages: WWF Together is an incredible app from the World Wildlife Federation that teaches conservation and science by incorporating the animals it is advocating on behalf of. Great for kids who love the outdoors and love quirky, unusual, interesting scientific facts.
Best for babies: It's never too early to start the learning process, even if you're still too young for school. ABC Zooborns is designed for babies and toddlers but adults are going to fall in love with it as well. It teaches young children about animals using adorable newborn babies from zoos all around the world.
For ages 5+: The Human Body is a very fun look at the working parts of the human body. It’s a colorful, interesting, and fun introduction to physiology. Kids can send food through the digestive system, tickle the human with a feather to see the nervous system in action, and browse through a brain. It’s animated, so don’t worry about graphic photos — there aren’t any. Also, the reproductive system is available as an in-app purchase (just in case you’d rather not have your children poring over that particular bit of the body).
For ages 8+: Monster Physics is an educational app that lets young scientists play with the laws of physics as they build contraptions and complete challenges with their pet monster. Kids choose from fifty missions that let them solve such problems as how to get their monster through an obstacle course or feed it fruit. In the build section, kids can create their own imaginative inventions and then test them out for fun.
For ages 10+: Fraction Math is an educational app that helps students kick their math homework blues away. Can’t figure out the lowest common denominator? No problem. The app guides kids step by step as they work out the fraction problem and offers tips if they get stuck. Kids can solve random fraction operations or input their own custom problems. Great not just for math but also for budding entrepreneurs and young business moguls.
