There's a better (and cheaper) way to connect with potential clients. If you're a small business owner struggling to make authentic, lasting connections through social media, Facebook is not your friend. True, it's easy enough to set up a Facebook business page. And you can get started with just a few simple posts. But if you want to really make some inroads, you're going to have to pay for advertising.
While there's only so much you can do to maximize your page engagment sans ads, you CAN still use Facebook to promote your business expertise through another channel and, this time, it's free. I'm talking about Groups.

Have you vowed to get more organized in the New Year? These apps will help jump start your resolution!Do you like the new Netflix series "Tidying Up with Marie Kondo" as much as I do? I've long loved her book "The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up" and I'm so excited to watch her in action. And her work serves as an excellent reminder to delete older, under-used apps, replace poor performing ones with better designed competitors, and use some new apps that will help you organize your life and keep it that way. Here's what has me excited this year! GDPR compliance is 100% essential for Canadian websites.Did I ever tell you about the time I used a mobile coupon to save on some delicious fast food restaurant ice cream and then turned around and tried to print the same coupon from my laptop... all so I could enjoy MORE discount ice cream?
Of course not. Because I'm a dignified sort of person who would never double dip my coupons for a chocolate dipped cone. But let's say that I had - only to receive a message on my screen which said the limit was one per person. Outrageous! How did they know it was ME? If you can relate to this kind of ninja coupon tracking fiasco, than you are already on your way to understanding GDPR, a serious piece of European Union legislation that's neither delicious nor refreshing - but 100% essential to the future of your business. Small businesses need to communicate their holiday hours. Social media makes it quick and easy. So why do so many business owners neglect this?Without fail, I always find myself with a restaurant conundrum every Easter long weekend. I've shown up at places which boost that they never close only to find out that they do in fact shut down. I've turned up to Happy Hours and found the place hopping (not unlike the Easter bunny itself I suppose...) only to learn that their usual menu has been replaced, or that the Happy Hour specials have been cancelled, or that the only available option is a buffet. And I've even stayed away from restaurants, convinced that I won't be able to find breakfast early on the morning of Easter Sunday, only to learn that they were indeed open the whole time.
What do all these frustrating scenarios have in common? They all could have been prevented with social media. Looking to improve your organization? These apps will help.
Do you like organize-y things as much as I do? Yep, I'm the girl who got a label maker for Christmas this year - and I've used it so much I've already had to buy a second spool of labels! Of course, it's not just practical household items that can be employed in organization. There's a ton of great apps for your smart phone that can keep your life, business, and community commitments on track.
Here are some apps that have really impressed me lately - and I'm not the only one. They are all rated at least 4/5 in the app store. I was so happy to appear on CTV Ottawa Morning Live to tell everyone all about them - and now you can see the list here! |
